Cuba Claims Intercepted Boat's Occupants Had 'Terrorist Intentions'

Cuba's Ministry of the Interior stated that the ten occupants of the speedboat intercepted in its territorial waters had intentions of carrying out an infiltration for terrorist purposes. According to authorities, the boat, registered in Florida, USA, entered Cuban waters on Wednesday morning. When a patrol boat with five members of the 'Tropas Guardafronteras' (Border Troops) approached it for identification, fire was opened from the boat on the Cuban forces. They, in turn, responded with fire. As a result, four people on the boat were killed and six were injured. Among the injured are Amijail Sánchez González and Leordan Enrique Cruz Gómez, whom the Cuban government had already included on its terrorist list. Authorities also reported the seizure of 'assault rifles, short-barreled weapons, artisanal explosive devices (Molotov cocktails), bulletproof vests, telescopic sights, and camouflage uniforms.' Additionally, Duniel Hernández Santos, a Cuban resident in the USA, was arrested. He was sent to ensure the reception of the armed infiltration and has confessed to his actions. The incident occurred amid heightened tension between the United States and Cuba.
