The vessel “Granma 2.0”, arriving from Mexico, delivered over 30 tons of humanitarian aid to Havana from the international “Convoy Nuestra América”. Vessel “Granma 2.0” Arrives in Havana with Humanitarian Aid

Buenos Aires, March 24 (NA) – The vessel “Granma 2.0”, coming from Mexico, arrived this Tuesday at the port of Havana, Cuba's capital, as part of the Convoy Nuestra América, an international mobilization that challenges the tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States on the island for more than six decades. The vessel, a tuna boat baptized by the organizers as “Granma 2.0”, in honor of the yacht in which the revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro arrived in Cuba in 1956 to begin the fight against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1959), arrived with more than 30 people from 11 countries and at the forefront of a solidarity flotilla. The activists brought a cargo of more than 30 tons of humanitarian aid, with medical supplies, food, and solar panels, on a journey defined by its members as “a mission loaded with historical symbolism”. The governor of Havana, Yanet Hernández, received the activists at the pier and highlighted the significance of the day, by emphasizing that “once again the flags of solidarity are raised” and the peoples were “united by the history of Nuestra América throughout the centuries”, according to the Argentine News Agency. “To the more than 600 friends from different latitudes and states representing 300 organizations and 31 countries who have been sharing with us in these days, are added the 32 people from 11 countries who have arrived in our capital. Overcoming the ravages of a sea voyage, they arrive in the Homeland,” expressed Hernández. The official stated that in this journey they have brought material aid to the Cuban people and, most importantly, “they provide permanent support and solidarity to demonstrate that Cuba is not alone”. “In the most difficult conditions, Cuba continues to be that reference of dignity and solidarity that many governments and peoples of the world admire,” affirmed the governor. In turn, the Brazilian activist and one of the flotilla's coordinators, Thiago Ávila, stated that “all the free peoples of the world have to thank Cuba”. In the same line of thought, he qualified the flotilla “Granma 2.0” as an “act of historical retribution” because “Cuba is the country and the most supportive people on the entire planet”. “It is difficult the task of defeating the cruelest, most dangerous, and most destructive system in the history of the world, but we will achieve it, because that boat demonstrates that solidarity is not blocked,” said Ávila. The Convoy Nuestra América is an international mobilization that brings together parliamentarians, judges, ambassadors, and activists from almost all continents to bring humanitarian aid to Cuba and denounce the blockade imposed by Washington on Havana. The organizers qualify the initiative as a humanitarian challenge to economic pressure, in an attempt to demonstrate that the Cuban people is not alone in the face of external pressure measures.
