Marco Rubio Condemns Cuba's Support for US Fugitives

Marco Rubio criticizes the Cuban regime for harboring US fugitives and terrorists, urging their extradition to face justice. This comes amid heightened political tensions and recent policy reversals by the Trump administration regarding Cuba's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Marco Rubio Condemns Cuba's Support for US Fugitives

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed his condemnation of the Cuban regime on Friday for its alleged complicity with fugitives and terrorists from the United States. Rubio demanded that American fugitives under the protection of the Cuban regime be brought to justice.

Rubio made these statements through a public message, marking his first mention of Cuba since assuming office on January 20 in President Donald Trump's cabinet. The remarks were made in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the tragic bombing of the Fraunces Tavern, in which four people lost their lives and nearly 40 were injured.

The attack, which occurred on January 24, 1975, and was carried out by members of the Puerto Rican nationalist group FALN, has one of its perpetrators being William 'Guillermo' Morales, who is currently a fugitive and sheltered by the Castro regime in Cuba. It is estimated that around 70 fugitives from the United States have found refuge on the island, many of them accused of serious crimes such as kidnapping, murder, and drug trafficking.

President Donald Trump recently reversed the Biden administration's decision to remove Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. The White House has justified this measure as part of a series of rescissions of decrees and executive actions deemed harmful by the new administration.

The bombing at Fraunces Tavern, which Rubio recalls, is considered one of the most shocking terrorist acts in New York's history and was part of a series of attacks that affected the United States during the 1970s.
