The Minister of Justice of Cuba announced the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the release of 553 detainees, which became known in January of this year. Among the released detainees were those who were convicted of serious crimes, as well as individuals awaiting trial for serious offenses. "This measure helps alleviate the overcrowding of correctional institutions, creating conditions for the reintegration of the released into society," noted the Minister of Justice. The release of detainees is part of Cuba's overall plan to combat crime and improve the conditions of detention for prisoners.
