According to a report on Cubanet.org, Sylvie Beauchesne received treatment for a hip fracture while vacationing in Holguin on February 7. After the incident, the tourist sought medical assistance at the local hospital, but was disappointed with the service, receiving "negative attention" from the medical service representatives.
After returning home to Canada, Beauchesne wrote to the Holguin regional management to complain about the quality of medical care she received. In response to the tourist's complaint, the Ministry of Health conducted an internal investigation of the incident.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Health of Cuba denies the presence of negligence in the provision of medical assistance to the tourist and characterizes her complaint as a "negative position." In its response, the agency notes that the doctors in Holguin provided quality and timely treatment, necessary for the situation.
