Not Dying with Dignity in Cuba

In Cuba, the situation has reached a point where it is not even possible to guarantee a dignified burial. Coffins are transported on buses, reflecting the current crisis in the country.

Not Dying with Dignity in Cuba

In Cuba, unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly common that not even a solemn burial or minimal quality conditions for coffins are guaranteed. Recently, a case has come to light that highlights this concerning situation.

A family in the province of Artemisa experienced an outrageous event by having to transport the coffin of a loved one on a public bus, known as "guagua" in Cuba. The funeral procession was forced to board the public transport with the coffin due to the lack of another viable option to reach the cemetery.

This incident has generated outrage and criticism in Cuban society, as it reflects the lack of respect and dignity with which the deceased and their families are treated. The situation evidences the precarious conditions in which funeral services on the island find themselves.

In this regard, a relative of the deceased expressed their frustration: "It is impossible that at such a painful moment, we have to go through such a degrading situation. Our loved ones deserve a final farewell that is dignified and respectful, not to be transported as if they were merchandise."

This event has rekindled the debate on the need to improve the conditions of funeral services in Cuba and ensure that all citizens, even in times of mourning, receive dignified and respectful treatment. The lack of guarantees for a proper burial and the precarious access to quality coffins are realities that must be urgently addressed.
