According to a report from the Cuban Institute for Freedom of Expression and Press (ICLEP), in January 2025, there were nearly two violations of freedom of expression daily in Cuba. The main victims of these violations were citizens without affiliation to dissident organizations, activists, and political prisoners.
The report highlights that repression against those who dare to express critical opinions towards the current government has intensified. Many of the reported cases include arbitrary detentions, harassment, intimidation, and censorship through state media.
According to ICLEP, the situation for those defending human rights and freedom of expression on the island is alarming. Many of them have been subject to constant harassment by the authorities, putting their physical and emotional integrity at risk.
In this context, it is essential to maintain international attention on the human rights situation in Cuba and to demand that the government respect freedom of expression and the right to political dissent. As mentioned by the director of ICLEP, these systematic violations must be denounced and eradicated to build a more just and free society.
