Organizations of civil society in Cuba have proposed a reform plan for education aimed at guaranteeing academic freedom and freeing education from ideological censorship. The initiative is aimed at creating opportunities for the co-existence of both state and private educational institutions. According to the proposed changes, the initiators' stakeholders need to develop legislation that would guarantee professional autonomy for providers, excluding ideological interference in educational programs and providing space for the free exchange of ideas. "We strive to eliminate ideological barriers in education to ensure Cubans access to information and resources necessary for critical thinking and self-realization," stated one of the initiative participants. Such changes, in the opinion of the organizers, can also contribute to diversity and innovation in the educational sphere, ultimately benefiting the entire society.
