The Ministry of the Interior of Cuba (Minint) announced this Thursday that one of the six detainees in the operation involving a speedboat from US territorial waters with 10 people on board and a large quantity of weapons, according to the Cuban government's account, has died from wounds sustained in the shootout with border guard troops. In the last paragraph of a statement on the investigation process, Minint indicated that Roberto Álvarez Ávila, one of the injured in the incident and detained since then, «died on March 4 as a result of the injuries received». On February 25, Cuban border guard troops intercepted a speedboat coming from the USA.
