Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the President of the Republic of Cuba, took to social media to recognize the support the Caribbean island has received from former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador during his tenure. Díaz-Canel wrote with great warmth from his profile: "Thank you, dear brother López Obrador." The current Cuban leader affirmed that the republic will never forget all the acts of solidarity that emanated from Mexico during López Obrador's administration. He also thanked Havana for the support it has received in its act of resistance against the dominance of the United States. Finally, the Caribbean head of state expressed: "And we will never forget your permanent and decisive support for strengthening that cherished friendship." This came after López Obrador's earlier message, calling on Mexicans to provide economic support to Cuba, which is experiencing a humanitarian crisis following U.S. intervention in Venezuela, where President Nicolás Maduro was captured. Since then, the island nation has been adrift without a supply of oil and, consequently, without electricity in more than half of its territory. The former president urged everyone to donate to the Banorte account 1358451779 of the civil association "Humanity with Latin America," opened by citizens, writers, and journalists to buy food, medicine, oil, and gasoline to help the Cuban people.
